The Mound City North Star was created  in St. Louis, MO in 2016 as an online platform primarily designed to curate and disseminate content focusing on Black people locally and worldwide from a Black perspective.

The name draws from the historic mounds created by the indigenous people who once inhabited the greater St. Louis area. Mounds are considered by some to be pyramids. Mound City North Star also draws from the lineage of Black news outlets committed to the total liberation of Black people worldwide, such as its namesake the North Star, created by Frederick Douglass in 1847.

We seek to use this platform to inform, educate, and politicize our community. Our intention is to reach out and touch as many of our people as possible.
