Hip Hop artist Nipsey Hussle was shot down in front of his Marathon Clothing store on Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Blvd in Los Angeles this past Sunday afternoon.

LAPD identified Eric Holder  as the shooter and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies apprehended him sometime before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Prior to the shooting, Nipsey Hussle and Eric Holder had a “tense exchange” during which Hussle reportedly questioned Holder on whether he’d once been a police informant. Holder then left the scene insulted by the accusation and later returned with a gun, according to TMZ.

Nipsey Hussle, who was born Ermias Asghedom, bought up the block on Slauson Avenue in the neighborhood that he grew up in, and offered opportunities to local youth. He started a barbershop, learning center for children, fish store and cryptocurrency company in addition to his own Marathon Clothing store located in the plaza which he owned.

Nipsey also cut the ribbon on Vector 90, a combination co-working space and center in the Crenshaw district, which introduced Black youth to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, according to the LA Times. He did this just one day before the February 2018 release of his highly anticipated debut album “Victory Lap.”

Nipsey was also working on a documentary of Dr. Sebi, who is said to have cured AIDS as well as cancer patients and passed away mysteriously while in Honduras police custody in 2016. Nick Cannon has vowed to complete the project, according to BET.

Hussle even had plans to erect a building in order to provide low-income housing for neighborhood residents.

Nipsey Hussle released his music under his own label, All Money In, and maintained complete control of its distribution. As a show of confidence, in 2013, he famously set a $100 price tag for a limited number of physical copies of his Crenshaw mixtape. Veteran rapper Jay-Z bought 100 copies.

Five years later, he released his debut album that he actually completed in 2013, simply because he refused to allow the music industry to exploit him. He didn’t call it an introduction, but instead a testimony of his already established greatness. He dropped his album “Victory Lap” in February 2018 and received rave reviews. He was also nominated for a Grammy award.

Hussle dropped 12 street-acclaimed mixtapes prior to “Victory Lap” which captured the hearts of many artists. He collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Childish Gambino, Drake, and YG. Rihanna, Drake, and J.Cole were also among his legion of fans.

Nipsey had two children, one of which is with his long time partner, actress Lauren London.
