One woman has literally built a movement without having yet become a household name.

Longtime activist Tarana Burke recently brought her message regarding issues of gender and sex relations, violence and equity to St. Louis at Webster University.

As the founder of the “Me Too” movement, Burke is igniting change in generations of us facing issues of security and human expression in our communities.

The phrase “Me Too,” coined by Burke, gained popularity on social media after actress Alyssa Milano used the expression to encourage women to speak out in the wake of multiple sexual allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Burke’s long time work had finally reached national prominence.
