Black Panther Runs Urban Farm to Give Ex-Prisoners a Fresh Start

Former Black Panther Elaine Brown has a plan to help empower ex-offenders. Her project repurposes vacant lots in her West Oakland, CA community for an urban farming business.

West Oakland Farms is Brown’s for-profit startup that employs ex-offenders to staff the urban farming business. The veteran advocate for prisoner and ex-offender rights has plans to expand the business to address the health maintenance of her West Oakland community in an array of areas.
